About The Position

Employment Type: Contract (8-month)
Salary Range: $18/hr

We are seeking a university or college student with a background in marketing & sales to create and implement a marketing plan for a new project that aims to bring together local businesses. The STEAM Project’s Makerspace is located on a cul de sac with at least 17 children’s programs and many other business types. Many of the businesses are tucked away and not visible from the road. The goal is to create a marketing plan and website that will be used to rebrand the street to “Ed Ave” or “Education Avenue” – a one-stop-shop for afterschool educational programs, including a website where parents can go to find children’s activities, and at the same time discover the myriad of other non-education related businesses located on the street. The position will be an 8-month internship from January – August 2023, with the earlier months focused on developing branding and strategy, and the latter months focused on pitching the project to local business owners.

This co-op/internship position will take place in-person at our Makerspace in Richmond Hill.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Is able to work independently and learn quickly
  • Is comfortable working on marketing projects alone
  • Has strong communication skills to work with a team to gather information, receive feedback, and make revisions
  • Is organized and detail-oriented
  • Is comfortable talking to new people and pitching ideas

Role & Responsibilities

  • Develop marketing strategy (including branding guidelines)
  • Utilize branding guidelines to produce marketing materials and website design
  • Participate in review processes with the team
  • Communicate with the team about project status, timeline, and details
  • Pitch the project to local business owners

Required Skills

  • Education background related to Business, Marketing, or Communications related fields
  • Experience in sales and customer facing roles
  • Experience with marketing and strategy development
  • Additional skills that would be an asset:
    • Graphic design experience
    • Creating or managing websites using WordPress
    • Experience with project management software
    • Experience working with and/or teaching children (ages JK to Grade 8)
