Meet Our Founder

James (Jay) Wengle, MSc, BEd
Founder/Executive Director

Jay has spent over 15 years as an educator with the York Region District School Board. His past experiences include being a program director at Camp Manitou, a professor at York University, a researcher at Sick Kids Hospital, as well as an educator at The York Centre. His vision for the STEAM Project is to create and expand the program to inquisitive children, and to give the opportunities unavailable to him as a child.

Meet Our Team Members

Our full-time team members are integral to The STEAM Project’s day-to-day operations. In addition to our full-time staff, The STEAM Project employs over 100 talented youth in seasonal and contract positions throughout the year.

Ailsa
Office Administrator
Ailsa is the friendly face of The STEAM Project. She has a background in Advertising and Marketing Communications. With her extensive office administration experience, she helps parents both on the phone and in-person and helps to make sure all our programs run smoothly.
Sam
Camp Director & Education Manager
Sam has been working with The STEAM Project since 2017. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), with her Bachelor of Science and Education. She helps to plan the educational programs offered at The STEAM Project to ensure they meet and exceed the Ontario school curriculum.
Thomas
Workshop Manager
Thomas is our workshop and design expert. With a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Humber College, he has extensive experience with CAD software and mechanical design. He supervises and trains our staff with all of our workshop equipment and leads the woodworking program.
Arsalaan
Program Manager
Arsalaan is an engineering co-op student from McMaster University, completing a 12-month co-op term with The STEAM Project. He specializes in robotics and coding, will be managing the university and highschool co-op students as they learn to design educational projects for our students.
Spencer
Camp Director
Spencer has been involved in camps for the last several years, instructing and supervising a wide variety of programs, including sports, education, arts, and more. He has received a Specialized Honours Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health Science and possesses a passion for designing enjoyable and interactive recreational programs. His focus is to create an environment where children can learn through activities and develop physical literacy.
Rachel
Camp Director
Rachel is one of our summer camp directors with over half a decade’s worth of experience working in day camps. Growing up, Rachel attended many camps and fell in love with the camping world. Finally, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and specialization in Psychological Development, Rachel is confident that her deep understanding of child development and passion for the outdoors will help to provide kids with the ultimate summer experience.

Marketing Specialist
Natalie is a marketer and designer with a flare in photography and videography. With 8+ years of experience in digital marketing, she creates engaging and result-driven marketing campaigns that drive growth for the company.

Camp Director
Ashley is a Registered Early Childhood Educator that has been working with children of all ages for over 15 years, in camp settings and child care. She has a Bachelor of Honors in Early Childhood Leadership and has a true passion for the curiosity and capabilities of all children. She is a Full Time Camp Director and works closely with the STEAM Educational Team and Administration Staff to ensure the success of STEAM Summer Camp.

Ashley is a Registered Early Childhood Educator that has been working with children of all ages for over 15 years, in camp settings and child care. She has a Bachelor of Honors in Early Childhood Leadership and has a true passion for the curiosity and capabilities of all children. She is a Full Time Camp Director and works closely with the STEAM Educational Team and Administration Staff to ensure the success of STEAM Summer Camp.

Director of Business Development
Joey has been with The STEAM Project since 2019. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Management. With a background in marketing, UX/UI design, and project management, she works on a variety of projects to help grow the company.
