Meet Our Founder

James (Jay) Wengle, MSc, BEd
Founder/Executive Director

Jay has spent over 15 years as an educator with the York Region District School Board. His past experiences include being a program director at Camp Manitou, a professor at York University, a researcher at Sick Kids Hospital, as well as an educator at The York Centre. His vision for the STEAM Project is to create and expand the program to inquisitive children, and to give the opportunities unavailable to him as a child.

Meet Our Team Members

Our full-time team members are integral to The STEAM Project’s day-to-day operations. In addition to our full-time staff, The STEAM Project employs over 100 talented youth in seasonal and contract positions throughout the year.

Ailsa
Office Administrator
Ailsa is the friendly face of The STEAM Project. She has a background in Advertising and Marketing Communications. With her extensive office administration experience, she helps parents both on the phone and in-person and helps to make sure all our programs run smoothly.
Lauren
Camp Director
Lauren has over 17 years of professional camp and recreation leadership experience in day and overnight camps across Ontario. She is passionate about offering high-quality, enriching, and inclusive camp experiences to campers and staff alike. Lauren managed operations at our Curling Club summer camp in 2022 and is at the Makerspace year-round, planning and preparing for all of our upcoming camp programs. She can’t wait to see you at camp!
Joey
Director of Business Development
Joey has been with The STEAM Project since 2019. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Management. With a background in marketing, UX/UI design, and project management, she works on a variety of projects to help grow the company.
Abel
Production Manager
Abel has been with The STEAM Project since 2021. He has a Bachelor of Industrial and Product Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). With his expertise in CAD, product design, and manufacturing processes, he oversees the production of all the projects at The STEAM Project.
Samantha
Education Program Coordinator
Samantha has been working with The STEAM Project since 2017. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), with her Bachelor of Science and Education. She helps to plan the educational programs offered at The STEAM Project to ensure they meet and exceed the Ontario school curriculum.
Melanie
Education Program Coordinator
Melanie has an extensive camp background and has recently joined The STEAM Project team. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), with her Bachelor of Media Communications and Master of Teaching. She helps to plan the educational programs offered at The STEAM Project to ensure they meet and exceed the Ontario school curriculum.
Arsalaan
Robotics Program Developer & Instructor
Arsalaan is an engineering co-op student from McMaster University, completing a 12-month co-op term with The STEAM Project. He specializes in robotics and coding, and will be developing projects and working with the Education Program Coordinators to develop the robotics and coding curriculum to meet and exceed Ontario School Curriculum.
