Meet Our Founders

The STEAM Project is led by three Ontario Certified Teachers from one of Ontario’s Top Ranked High Schools.

James (Jay) Wengle, MSc, BEd
Project Director

Jay has spent over 15 years as an educator with the York Region District School Board. His past experiences include being a program director at Camp Manitou, a professor at York University, a researcher at Sick Kids Hospital, as well as an educator at The York Centre. His vision for the STEAM Project is to create and expand the program to inquisitive children, and to give the opportunities unavailable to him as a child.

Ann Hu, BSc (Hons), BEd
Administrative Director

Fascinated with technology, Ann is devoted to spreading the appreciation of both math and science, and their importance in the developing brain. She has been an educator with the York Region District School Board for over 15 years. She has past experience working with Camp Green Acres and as well as international language programs in both English and Mandarin.

Huron Chu, BSc (Hons), BEd
Operational Director

Huron Chu has been an educator with the York Region District School Board for over 10 years and is an official HIGH FIVE®-certified instructor. As an active member of the community, Huron has had 15 years of experience working with the City of Toronto as a coordinator and trainer and has worked to create solutions that will minimize the impact of waste on the planet.

Meet Our Team Members

Our full-time team members are integral to The STEAM Project’s day-to-day operations. In addition to our full-time staff, The STEAM Project employs over 100 talented youth in seasonal and contract positions throughout the year.

Office Administrator
Rachel is the friendly face of The STEAM Project. She helps parents both on the phone and in-person, and helps to make sure all our programs run smoothly. She graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Life Sciences and will be starting dental school at Western University.
Camp Director
Lorne has been working with The STEAM Project since 2018. He is an educator with the York Region District School Board specializing in working with younger children. He will be leading the operations at the Markham Campus this summer.
Workshop Coordinator
Abel is our equipment specialist and he oversees all of the manufacturing at The STEAM Project. He graduated from Industrial Design at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and is extremely talented in product and process design.
Program Coordinator
Norbert has been with The STEAM Project for 5 years, first as a camper and now as a full-time program coordinator. With his technical background, he helps plan lessons and activities, while still spreading fun at camp.
