About the
Position:

We are seeking university or college co-op/internship students with a background in engineering, science, and design who are passionate about inspiring and educating children and teens through hands-on projects. At The STEAM Project, we develop innovative projects and experiences that give participants hands-on opportunities to learn, build, and explore. This co-op/internship position will take place in person at our fully equipped Makerspace in Richmond Hill.

Requirements

Experience with design, prototyping, and hands-on building

Experience working with children and/or teens

Experience with 2D/3D design (Illustrator, CAD software)

Strong communication and presentation skills

Comfortable using or learning digital fabrication tools (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters)

Considered an Asset:

Experience with coding, robotics, electronics, and instructing children in these skills.

Experience with safety measures in a workshop and with fabrication equipment (e.g. 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking tools, etc.)

Experience with product design, especially the design of physical products, toys, or educational aids.

Familiarity with Ontario curriculum or experience designing educational content

Role & Responsibilities

Instruct lessons and activities for children and teens during after school/weekend classes, school break camps, and summer camps

Design hands-on projects relating to science, technology, and engineering from start to finish, including research, prototyping, and manufacturing.

Develop projects and lesson plans that include skill development, curriculum alignment, and clearly defined learning goals

Refine and test project prototypes to ensure they are age-appropriate, engaging, and practical for classroom implementation

Support classroom management and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment

Examples of skills you will teach through projects and lessons include: design challenges, 3D printing, CAD, electronics, woodworking, and more!

Additional Requirements

A clear Vulnerable Sector Check from within the past six (6) months or willingness to obtain

Standard First Aid with CPR-C (or willingness to obtain).

This is an in-person position and successful candidates must be able to commute to our Richmond Hill location. Please look up our location to ensure you would be able to commit to the commute.

This job may be funded by the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP). The SWPP program requires that candidates be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or a protected person defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
